Commitments to the Hertford County Goal (sic) - James Hislop, for want of sureties, for his keeping the peace; John Jeffrey, charged with stealing a quantity of barley, the property of Edward Wabey, his master, at Stevenage; Allen Wisbey and Alfred Wisbey, charged with being armed with a gun in the night time in pursuit of game; Rachael Shepherd, charged with stealing three bonnets, one hat, a pair of shoes, and other articles, the property of George Cheek, of Essendon. Allen & Alfred Wisby were transported to Tasmania on the "Neptune", tried at Hertford Assizes, given 7 years and arrived in VDL 18 Jan, 1838 with 350 other convicts. Occupation : Mariner BRUNY. At the Bruny Police Court on Saturday before Messrs E H. Pybus (Warden) and W H Vaughan, J.P. , Trooper Butler prosecuting, E.T. Davis, T Grundy, R I Hawkins, and Allen Wisby were proceeded against for neglecting to send their children to school regularly, and a fine of 5s was imposed in each case, costs being remitted. Colonial Times Friday 29 Nov 1850 p.2 ALLEGED BURGLARY - Alfred and Allen Wisby, both free (that means they had served their time), were brought up yesterday on a charge of breaking and entering the Inn of Mr Peter Dudgeon, in Murray-street, called “Holyrood House,” on Tuesday night last. Mr Macdowell appeared for the prisoners, but on the case being called the prosecutor Mr Dudgeon failed to attend, and the prisoners were discharged. Mr Macdowell called the attention of the magistrate to the extreme hardsip of the case. Here were two free men of respectable characters and in good employment locked up in the watch house all night, accused of a most serious charge, which the prosecutor had failed to established. Mr Wilmot - the men have their remedy. Mr Macdowell - I know they have and they will exercise that remedy. Mr Wilmot to D.C. Thomas - Did Mr Dudgeon sign his name to the charge when entered? D.C.
