Bungonia not Bingonia
Trial at Essex Assizes 9 Mar 1829, convicted of poaching pheasants in Elmdon Essex on 18 Dec 1828 and sentenced to 14 years transportation (Reported in Chelmsford Chronical 20 Mar 1829). Arrived Sydney 19 Feb 1830 on "Catherine Stewart Forbes". Worked for Dr. David Reid at "Inverary Park" Bungonia NSW. Ticket of Leave no. 36/1215 obtained 13 Jun 1836. Parents shown on death cert as John Wisbey and Sarah Miller JOHN WISBEY (JOHN, JAMES) was born 1810 in Langley, Essex. He married MARY FITZGERALD abt 1838. Notes for JOHN WISBEY: John Wisbey, 19, of Essex, was tried at Chelmsford (Essex Assizes - Ticket of Leave) on 9th March, 1829 for poaching. He was found guilty and sentenced to 14 years transportation to Australia. He travelled on the ship "Katherine Stewart Forbes" which carried 200 convicts. One died on the journey. The ship arrived in Sydney on 19th February, 1830. Master of the ship was Canny and the surgeon was J. McTernan. His convict indent states that he was Protestant, single and could read. Trade was noted as 'ploughman, reaps, milks'. He had no previous convictions. He was described as 5'7" tall, ruddy complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes and had no other distinguishing marks. His Ticket of Leave was granted on 13th June, 1836 and he was allowed to remain in the District of Bingonia on recommendation of the Goulburn Bench, March, 1836.
