Essex Assizes. The following nineteen prisoners were sentenced to suffer Death, … James Wisby and James Argent, for entering the house ? in the day time, and stealing three £1. notes, four pocket handkerchiefs, &c; … John Cox and Thomas Smith, the last-named prisoner, are left for execution: the others were reprieved. Cambridge Chronicle, 31 July 1818.
James Wisby was 5'4" tall, had grey eyes, light brown hair, scar middle left cheek. 1830: Public Works. 12/11/1831: Hobart Colonial Conviction. 21/3/1832: Sentenced to another life sentence. 15/6/1832: Transported to Norfolk Island. 1845: TOL Moreton Bay. 20/10/1849: CP Sydney.
James Wisby was 18 years old on arrival in VDL. Born in Halstead, Essex, he was 5'4" tall, grey eyes, light brown hair, scar middle of left cheek. 1830 Muster: Public Works. 29/10/1831: Aged 30 Absconded from Port Arthur. 12/11/1831: In Hobart, received a Colonial Conviction. 11/1/1832: Aged 31 Absconded from hulk chain gang January 5th. £2 reward. 21/3/1832: Was again sentenced to Life. 15/6/1832: Transported to Norfolk Island. 1845: TOL Moreton Bay. 20/10/1849: CP Sydney. 24/7/1851: Named in the Geelong Advertiser. 2/11/1863: Named in the Star, Ballarat.
