Convict Notes
John worked as a labourer to various free settlers including Thomas Archer who owned the property "Woolmers" at Longford. When he received his ticket of freedom he sailed in the "Tamar" from Georgetown and worked as a carter in Melbourne before moving to the goldfields around Bendigo. John worked as a miner and he and his wife can be traced from field to field from records of where their children were born. He eventually bought land in Bealiba, Victoria and he and Sarah produced 14 children and 49 grandchildren. He is buried at Bealiba Cemetery with his wife Sarah and some of his children. He died from tuberculosis on 28th March 1891.
