6 Oct 1817, Requesting permission to be married, Thos Whittle, convict per ship Marquis Wellington & Margaret Brough, convict per ship Mary Ann. The humble petition of Thomas Whithall sheweth That Petitioner arrived in this colony in the ship Marquis of Wellington, Captain Beetham, labouring under the heavy sentence of Transportation for Life. That petitioner has been in the employ of John Johnson the potter ever since his arrival in this Colony and has uniformly supported a most fair and unblemished character for diligence, honesty and sobriety. May it therefore please your Excellency to take Petitioners good character into consideration and be graciously pleased to grant him a Ticket of Leave, And petitioner, as in duty bound will ever pray,… Thomas Whithall Botany Bay district, December 1818. I believe the petitioner to be a steady and industrious man, Signed, Thomas Moore.

At STAFFORD assizes ten prisoners received sentence of death, three of whom are left for execution, viz. ...and Wm. Cox, aged 51, and Peter Howell, aged 30 for breaking into the dwelling house of Bernard Wilkes, at Sedgley, and stealing divers goods, his property. B.
