Christened on 18 Dec 1814, parents John Wittin and Mary Poole. He and William Merrett were sentenced for stealing goods on 30 Jun 1834. He was held on the Prison Hulk "Justitia" at Woolwich before departing on the "Mary Ann" on 6 Jul 1835. On the Hulk his behavior was reported as bad and he was whipped. Arr Sydney on 26 Oct 1835. At Wilberforce in 1841 census. T o L on 21 Jan 1841 and C o F on 8 Jun 1844. Married Mary Ann Oates on 12 Oct 1848, Mudgee district. They had 7 children. He and his family used the surname Whitton. William was locally known as "Bristol Bill" and is buried at Dubbo.
