Old Bailey Proceedings October 1838 George Wolfe,Theft,pocketpicking 2466.George Wolfe,was indicted for stealing,on the 19th of October,1 watch,value 30s.1 ribbon,value 3d.and 2 watch keys,value 6d. the goods of Samuel Sloane,from his person. Samuel Sloane. I am a gunner in the Royal Artillery.On the 19th of October I hung my watch at the head of my bed,at Woolwich -in the morning it was gone -the prisoner and others slept in the same room -this is my watch -(looking at it) Prisoner. I was in the room when you went to bed,A.I did not see you-I got up at Five o'clock. Prisoner.I was out on leave on Friday night,and when I was in bed when he got up the next morning,and when he came back. John Moore.I am a pawnbroker at Woolwich.On Saturday,the 20th of October,I heard an account of this watch-after that the prisoner came,and brought the watch,and I took him into custody. Prisoner.It was given to me by a person in the street-I was in liquor. Witnesses.No he was not. GUILTY of stealing,but not from the person.Aged 32 Transported for Seven Years
