Augustus Wood was transported for stealing 13 pairs of boots. He had been sentenced to 7 years transportation before for pocket picking, but served 6 years and 3 months at the 'Retribution' and was not actually shipped. Augustus was 5'9" tall, brown hair, hazel eyes, pale complexion, single. 1832-33: Assigned to Captain Friend. 1835: Public Works. 1837: TOL May 1838: Married Deborah Wood nee Preece, a widow who was free (2 children). Deborah had married William Wood 15/1/1835, he died 30/5/1837 at Launceston. C1839: Augustus was the Licencee of the Steam Packet Tavern in George Town, Launceston, he was still there in 1844 and in 1845 was declared insolvent. 1850: Licencee of the Macquarie Hotel, Launceston. 1855: Licencee of Wood's Hotel, George Town, Launceston. 28/5/1856: The Cornwall Chronicle, Launceston: At George Town, on Monday, the I9th instant, of Bronchitis, Mr. Augustus Wood, aged 48 years.
