UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849 for John James Wood Leviathan Register 1801-1836: Crime stated as : Felony. 19/4/1830: Married Charlotte Brown - James John Wood *, 27, bachelor, Mq Hastings, 1826, life, bond, clerk and Charlotte Brown, 18, spinster, father consented in person March 26 1830, Richard Hill Clerk in my office since his arrival, conduct satisfactory in every respect. The girl he about to marry is daughter to overseer {William} Brown at Carters Barrack, a well conducted and industrious person. Married at St James Sydney. 12/7/1834: Charlotte died, aged 22. **Charlotte, wife of John James WOOD, died 12th July 1834 aged 21 years also Olive Land, infant son of the above, aged 3 months died 4th September 1834. They also had another son Henry James Wood 1831-1896. 7/2/1835: Married Ann Stubbs/Cormick the widow of George Cormick in Sydney. George came free aboard the ship Ann & Amelia in 1825. (George Cormick b 1801-1828) Ann was 15 years old. Feb. 1837 - John James Wood, late of George Street, Sydney, Linen Draper, and Habadasher - Declared Insolvent. 27/2/1837: Ann Wood died . **Mrs. Ann WOOD died 27th February 1837 aged 28 years. also Elen, her daughter. also Eliza Matilda, aged 11 (weeks). 2/3/1831: TOL Sydney. - Granted in consideration of five years good conduct and faithful services as Clerk employed in the office of the Principal Superintendent of Convicts (not sure). 6/2/1833: Recommended for a CP 20/8/1833: CP - described as 5'8" tall, pale ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes - linen draper - crime: Privately stealing. 8/9/1836: Recommended for AP. 15/11/1837: Absolute Pardon.
He was a Clerk in the Office of the Commissioner of Convicts. Strangely his Pardon states his crime as Larceny .... very convenient error on a pardon issued from the office he was working. Married Charlotte Brown whose father came from Ireland on the Marquis of Hastings with John and was also given a pardon.
