National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/51/64. Date: July 1832. Prisoner name: Joseph Wood. Court and date of trial: No details. Crime: No details. Initial sentence: Not stated. Transported to Australia 1824. Annotated (Outcome): Free pardon prepared 8 September 1832. Petitioner(s): John Whitaker, Visiting Magistrate, at Presteigne Gaol, supported by Mr Barnes, the only other Visiting Magistrate. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's good conduct during a long confinement in Presteigne Gaol and his giving information to prevent the escape from Presteigne Gaol of several dangerous characters then imprisoned there. Other papers: A supporting letter, two copies dated 5 and 6 April 1832 from General Richard Bourke, Government House, Sydney confirming the prisoner's good conduct since arrival in Australia.
