Sarah Wood was convicted at Edinburgh 16/12/1850 for theft and receiving a jacket and waistcoat. 10yr transportation sentence. Native Place: Chesire. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the Aurora, arriving 10/08/1851. Ship Surgeon's Report: Exemplary. Single; Church of England; read & write; housemaid/plain cook; 32yrs of age; 5'5 1/2"; sallow complexion; reddish hair; Hazel eyes. 1851: Mr. Milward, Patrick St. 09/11/1852: Must serve 5yrs before her Ticket of Leave. 1853: Mr. E. Barker, Macquarie Plains. 14/12/1853: Married John Ganfield at New Norfolk. 05/06/1855: recommended for Conditional Pardon. 12/02/1856: Drowned - threw herself into the River Derwent, near Hamilton.
