1837: While assigned to GP Ball Esq, he was charged with neglect of duty in "losing 28 sheep being part of a flock entrusted to his charge" -- punished with "12 months hard labour out of chains and recommended to be employed to the other side of the Bland" (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-46$init=CON31-1-46p173). 1841, 2 July: William Wood received a Ticket of Leave. He is also listed on the 1841 Muster as holding a ToL (see NSW and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849; Tasmania, List of convicts (incomplete) 1841). 1843, 7 September: William Wood per England 1832 was issued with a Conditional Pardon No.568. He was listed on the record as tried at Hertford in 1831 and sentenced to life. He was pardoned on 11 August 1843 (see Tasmania, Australia, Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899; Pardons, Leave, Discharge; Registers of conditional pardons issued, 1842-1843). 1846, December: Muster - William Wood, tried Hert'd 1831, life, per England 1832, Conditional Pardon (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849; Tasmania, Ledger Returns S-Z 1846).

1832: On arrival in VDL, William Wood - convict #1417 - was described as 52, 5'7" with a ruddy complexion, reddish brown hair and grey eyes. He was a ploughman whose native place was Hertford (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-6$init=CON18-1-6p178). His Conduct Record said he had been convicted at Hertford on 28 November 1831 and sentenced to life for "stealing a lamb". It quoted William Wood as saying his offence was "sheep stealing".
