he had been tried at somerset assizes (england) on 10 august 1843 and sentenced to 15 years transportation for maliciously wounding and cutting john spiller. this was his first offence and in his own words he ststed that "we were at a party together. i went home with a female. 3 men tried to take her away from me. i stabbed one of them with a knife. i was struck first". john had 3 brothers isaac, william and henry and 3 sisters fraances, caroline and emma. his father was henry woodberry.thay lived near taunton somerset england. he married harriet augusta alice bonner on the 29/4/1852 at in cullenswood,tasmania. thay had 11 children elizabeth frances (fanny),henry, samuel,john, william, thomas otway, charles edward, septimus walter, alfred george, octavius, ernest albert, alice harriet arthur, albert edward, flora ann. i more info on the above if any body wants it
