John Woodhall was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 9th Apr 1834 and arriving 17th Aug 1834 with 262 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

19/10/1833 Staffordshire Advertiser Staffordshire, England: John Woodhall and Joseph Salt were found guilty of picking the pocket of James Lindop, on the Pottery race-ground, of a pocket handkerchief. The prisoners being bad characters, were sentenced to be transported for seven years. No ship found for Joseph Salt. John Woodhall was 18 years old on arrival in NSW - he could read, was Protestant, single, 5'4" tall, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, scar under tip of chin, anchor imperfect inside lower right arm, small blue mark back of right wrist, J x W J W inside lower left arm. Occupation: Factory Boy.
