FOOTNOTE: Charles Woodman had petitioned, unsuccessfully against his sentence of transportation. Below is a summary record of his petition from the National Archives: "HO 17/17/35 ... Prisoner name: Charles Woodman. Prisoner age: 18. Court and date of trial: Buckinghamshire Summer Assizes, 1831. Crime: Wounding with intent to murder his sister-in-law at Temple Square, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Initial sentence: Death recorded and commuted to transportation for life. Gaoler's report: 'Character good'. Annotated: 'Nil'. Petitioner(s): William Woodman junior (convict's brother, a printer). Grounds for clemency: Not fully recovered from typhus fever; previous good character; high family standing in the county. Additional Information: He has ten siblings, all living. Date: 1831 Aug 17." Mar 19th 1838 Neglect of duty on his post as watchman July 1 1839 Neglect of duty as watchman 3 days soly conft Recommend to the Queen for a pardon No 467 7 Feb 1844 Appd March 1845 Supm Court Hobart 2nd March 1846 Cutting & wounding Elizh Jones with intent to kill & murder. Executed in Hobart.
