22/9/1827: Bernard Wood, a linen weaver and sawyer from County Monaghan, per Chapman 1817, was granted a Certificate of Freedom #27/915. Listed as born in 1800 and described as 5'4" tall with a dark ruddy and pockpitted complexion, dark brown hair and hazel eyes. A notation says "Certificate lost" so presumably this is a replacement (New South Wales, Australia, Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867; (NRS 12210) Butts of Certificates of Freedom 1827, September, All Records).

24/6/1823: Bernard Woods per Chapman 1817 is on a list of prisoners ordered by the Sydney Bench to be transported to Port Macquarie per "Sally" for the remainder of his original sentence. He ran away from there on 3/4/1824 (New South Wales, Australia, Colonial Secretary's Papers, 1788-1856; Copies of Letters Sent Outside The Colony, "Foreign", 1814-1856). September 1824: Bernard Woods, per Chapman 1817, is on a list of prisoners who received corporal punishment at Newcastle jail. He received 25 lashes for "destroying the blankets at the gaol" (New South Wales, Australia, Colonial Secretary's Papers, 1788-1856; Special Bundles, 1794-1825). May 1825: Still at Newcastle jail, he received 50 lashes for "assisting" a fellow inmate to steal Government bricks (New South Wales, Australia, Colonial Secretary's Papers, 1788-1856; Special Bundles, 1794-1825). 27/2/1827: Admitted to Sydney jail from the General Sessions in Sydney for being absent from the Barracks, he was sentenced to 6 months on the iron gang. He was sent to Parramatta on 7/3/1827. --0--

IN NSW: 10/8/1820: Bernard Woods, per Chapman 1817, was admitted to Sydney jail having been sent from Launceston for forwarding to Newcastle jail (New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930). 28/12/1822: Bernard Woods per Chapman - a runaway - was committed by Darcy Wentworth to be sent to Liverpool. He was sent from Sydney jail to Parramatta on 3/1/1823 (New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930; Entrance Book, Sydney). 21/6/1823: Correspondence from the Police Office concerning Bernard Woods/Wood, per Chapman 1817, who had had his Ticket of Leave cancelled and was to be transported to Port Macquarie for the remainder of his sentence for being an associate of the "notorious" bushranger Samuel Pearson. The document questions whether Bernard Woods had, as he claimed, already completed his original term of transportation (New South Wales, Australia, Colonial Secretary's Papers, 1788-1856; Main Series of Letters Received, 1788-1826).
