John Woods was 23 years old on arrival, he was transported for Burglary/Housebreaking, stealing £20 and some old coins. John was single, 5'4" tall, dark complexion, black hair and whiskers, hazel eyes, his native place was Norwich. 14/12/1846: TOL 2/4/1850: TOL revoked for being absent from muster. 19/10/1850: Tried at Hobart for the murder of Bernard Mulholland. 2/10/1850 The Courier, Hobart: MURDER -AT THE HUON.-Three persons were taken Into custody as concerned in the murder of Constable Bernard Mulholland; and one of them, a man named John Wood, has been committed for trial upon the warrant of the coroner, P. S. Tomlins, Esq. The deceased, who had been dreadfully assaulted and beaten, was found-to have died from »everal fractures of the »kull. 22/10/1850 Colonial Times, Hobart: SATURDAY, 18TH OCTOBER. John Woods was charged with the wilful murder of Bernard Mulholland, on the 23rd of Sept. last. The deceased was a constablo at the Huon ; and the whole of the evidence adduced, being of a circumstantial character, occupied tho Court until six o'clock, when the jury returned a verdict of Guilty, and the prisoner was sentenced to be hanged. 9/11/1850 Hobarton Guardian: PUBLIC EXECUTIONS.—On Wednesday morning the dread sentence of the law was carried into effect, on the convict John Woods, for the Murder of Constable Mulholland at the Huon River. The wretched convict was attended on the scaffold by the Rev. Mr. Tancred.
