Michael WOODS was convicted at Limerick, Ireland on 14 July 1849 for larceny - stealing fruit from a garden. Prison report: "good, never convicted before". 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Rodney", departing 25 Nov 1852, arriving there 12 Feb 1853. Aged 20 yrs; labourer; single man; 5'2 1/2" height; fair complexion; dk brown hair; blue eyes; Roman Catholic; can read & write; tatoos. Native place of birth: Co. Limerick, Ireland. Colony of VDL: 1 month Probation Period. Assigned as a Constable, Hobart. 14 April 1853, a Constable - being absent. 4 mths hard labour. 21 May 1853: Idleness. 14 days solitary confinement. 17 Jan 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 26 June 1854, a Constable - allowing prisoners in his charge to be drunk. Dismissed from his position. 5 Aug 1854, at Oatlands - disturbing the peace. Fined. 1855, at Richmond. 19 Aug 1856: Certificate of Freedom issued, at George Town.
