26/3/1880 The Armidale Express and New England General Advertiser, NSW: Deaths. At his residence, near Armidale, on the 7th March, 1880, after a brief illness, Mr. John Woolley, aged 50 years, a native of Spalding, Lincolnshire, England.




Convicted of stealing a watch, chain and key, topcoat and boots. He received his Ticket of Leave from Port Macquarie gaol on 4 March 1851. He married Helen Neil on 29 November 1852. He re-offended and his Ticket of Leave was cancelled. Served his 7 year sentence and moved to Armidale as a police constable in 1856. He was dismissed for neglect of duty and drunkenness. He then became a butcher.
