Newspaper snippet William Wotherspoon alias Cowley and Alexander Brown were accused of assault, as also robbery, in so far as on the 9th day of July 1847, they attacked and assaulted James Greensheilds, junior, weaver, residing in Douglas, Lanarkshire and robbed him of 12shillins, one half ounce of tobacco, and a box on the road leading from Hamilton to Larkhall. Panels pleaded not guilty. The case went to trial, evidence was given at considerable length for the prosecution. The jury found the prisoners guilty as libelled , sentenced to transportation for 7 years.
