Entry in Sydney Monitor Wed 29 Jan 1840 p.3.. DEATHS: Yesterday, January 28, 1813, at her residence. Pitt-street, in the 70th year of her age, Mary, the beloved wife of Mr. J. Ennis. an old and respected Colonist after a long and protracted illness, which she bore with christian fortitude, leaving a numerous family and an extensive connection of friends to deplore her unimparable loss.
In the 1828 Census (Sainty & Johnson): [Ref E0490 page 139] Ennis, John, 66, conditional pardon, Glatton, 1803, life, Protestant, householder, Pitt Street Sydney. [Ref W2603 page 404] Wright, Mary, 53, conditional pardon, Speke, 1808, life, housekeeper, to John Ennis, Pitt Street Sydney.
Soon after arrival in the colony, Mary was living with John Ennis/Innis (Convict, 1803, "Glatton"). They are listed in the 1814 Muster:- [Ref 5182 page 117] John Innes, Glatton, Off Stores, Shopkeeper. [Ref 6931 page 158] Mary Wright, Speke, Off stores, 2 children off stores, with John Inous (sic). John and Mary married at St Phillips, Sydney, 1st October 1821. They are listed together in the 1822 Muster: Ennis, John, conditional pardon, Glatton, life, householder, Sydney. Wright, Mary, conditional Pardon, Speke, life, wife of J. Ennis, Sydney. Wright, Rebecca, 15, born in the colony, child of above. Wright, Sarah, 13, born in the colony, child of above.
