15/2/1828 Stamford Mercury Lincolnshire, England: The magistrates acting at Bourn, in conjunction with the police of this town, have been lately indefatigable their exertions to bring to justice a gang of desperarte characters, who have for a long time by nocturnal associate preyed upon a large circuit of coungtry ; and we are happy to congratulate our readers in this neighbourhood upon the apprehension and commitment to Lincoln Castle of the following individuals, viz. John Jibb, tailor, of Stamford, for burglary; Wm. Wright, commonly called Tulip Wright, of Stamford, a corporal upon the Staff of the Lincoln Militia ; Wm, Wright, laborer, of Barrowden ; Geo. Collins, laborer, of Edenham (for sheep stealing) ; and Wm. Osborn, laborer, of Carlby.

Convict Record, VDL: William WRIGHT convicted at Lincoln, England 8 March 1828 for stealing a gun and iron bars. Gaol Report: "bad character and one of a Gang of five convicted." Hulk Report: "orderly; wife". Stated wife was at City of Lincoln with mother who keeps a ...." 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Lady Harewood' arriving 1829. Aged 35 yrs; married man; dark brown hair; blue eyes; 5'7 1/2" height; tattoos. Trade - road maker. Native place of birth - Waddington, nr Lincoln. Conduct Record - no notes of any misconduct. 19 March 1833: Conditional Pardon approved. No. 468.

Born and baptized in Waddington Lincolnshire ENGLAND to an agricultural family.Joined the notorius Kesteven Gang.Married Mary Sewells 16th May 1809 St.Swithins Lincoln.Remarried 11th May 1837 at Hobart Tasmania, Mary Ann Underwood.They had 6 children.Tulip became Chief Constable of Melbourne 1838-1841 & a wealthy hostelry owner at Deep Creek. A Pioneer of Port Phillip - a reformed character made good.
