The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

Family connections for John (Wroe) are: WROE John (Wroe aka Clegg) was born about 1795. He was tried for stealing a watch at Salford Quarter Sessions New Bayley Manchester Lancashire in November 1814, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 1 1816 after a voyage of 6months on OCEAN. He married as John (Wise/Wroe/Rowe) Belinda/Milanda (Pitches her first marriage) in about 1827 (or on 21 9 1817 age11 as shown in Smees records) at St Johns CofE Parramatta & set up their family at South Creek/St Marys Parramatta. [Some details taken from this Website] Belinda (Pitches) was born on 24 8 1804 & baptised on 8 10 1809 age5 w/Elizabeth at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She had a second relationship with Jabez (Hill his second relationship) & produced 1child. She died on 3 12 1886 age82 mother of 5children. Details of Belinda (Pitches)s family are given in entry for John (Pitches PERSEUS 1802) on this Website. John (Wise/Wroe/Rowe/Row) Belinda/Milanda (Pitches) produced 4children: 1.Mary Ann (Wroe/Rowe/Row) was born on 18 2 1818 & baptised on 20 3 1818 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. 2.Elizabeth (Rowe) was born in 1820 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She died on 3 7 1829 age about109. 3.Eliza Jane (Rowe) was born on 17 5 1822 & baptised on 9 6 1822 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. 4.John (Rowe) was born on 1 12 1824 & baptised on 26 12 1824 at St Johns CofE Parramatra.
