Previously convicted and sentenced to hard labour on the Thames approximately 20-25 years before he was convicted of this crime and transported. Sent to Australia as a convict for robbing the Manchester Mail Coach of a truss.

Crime was committed on December 14, 1793 between Derby and Leicestershire, his trial was held on March 20, 1794. An article in the Leicester Journal on March 28, 1794 reads:- Among those convicted were Benjamin Wikes (stet), George Williams, Thomas White and John Fither for robbing the Manchester stage wagon of a truss. They were sentenced to be transported for seven years. 3 Guineas Reward Lost or stolen from the Manchester Post Coach on Saturday night the 14th of December, 1793 between Derby and Leicestershire, a truss directed to Mr Smallwood, London. Whoever will bring said truss to Mr Henry Holland of Loughborough, or give information, so as to recover the same shall receive a reward of 3 guineas. Copy of Death Certificate D1816/458-7 Benjamin WYKE 60 years Ex Ship Indian Died February 29, 1816 St Phillips Church Of England Apparently Benjamin was pardoned by Governor Hunter IN 1810 and returned to England. I AM RESEARCHING THE WYKES FAMILY AND MY DAD WAS CONVINCED THAT BENJAMIN IS A DISTANT RELATION, UNTIL NOW I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CLOSE THE GAP THAT MIGHT PROVE THIS
