Edward Yates, age 51, Miller, came by ship Sir William Bensley, resident at Pattersons Plains, Buried 11 Sept 1829 -------------------------------------------------- DIED :— On Tuesday last, Mr. Edward Yates, an old and respected Colonist, a man of unwearied perseverance. His first work at Hobart town was the building the Government Mill, for which Governor Sorrell gave him great praise, he then built a mill of his own on the opposite side of the same stream, since known by the name of Teddars mill, he also built several houses at Hobart town. In the year 1821 he came to this county, and built the first water mill on this side of the Island, at the head of Paterson's Plains, which has proved of infinite benefit to the Colony. His death has filled a numerous family with deep and unfeigned sorrow, and his loss will be severely felt. He was buried on Friday last, and his funeral was most respectfully attended, in fact, wherever he was known he was respected. Launceston Advertiser, 14 Sept 1829.
