Family connections for Henry (York) are: YORK Henry (York) (son of William (York) & Mary (Murry/York WILLIAM PITT 1806) was born in 1798 & baptised on 12 5 1799 at Bristol Gloucestershire & became a labourer. He was living perhaps in Somersetshire when he was tried for larceny at Bristol Quarter Sessions Gloucestershire, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 8 3 1817 after a voyage of 5months on FAME; he was Protestant 5'2.5" sallow complexion brown hair brown eyes. He was assigned to his mother at Bringelly & later assigned to William (Cosgrove)s brother Thomas. He is recorded in 1828 Protestant Free by Servitude with his mother at Mt Pleasant Bringelly. He married Mary (Murphy who had arrived free) on 23 2 1835. He played a large part in the grazing history of the Monaro district. He died on 25 6 1881 age83 at Liverpool. 29/4/1816 Gloucester Journal Gloucestershire, England: At Bristol Quarter Sessions, the following prisoners, for various acts of larceny, received sentence of transportation for seven years, viz._Henry York. Henry York was listed as 18 years old on arrival. Native Place: Somerset. Henry was 5'2½" tall, sallow complexion, brown hair and eyes.




His mother was Mary York who then married William Cosgrove and after he was killed then George Crooks.Henry was assigned to her husband William’s brother, Thomas Cosgrove.Along with his brother Charles and half brother John Cosgrove ,Henry played a large part in the grazing history of the Monaro district of NSW.




Henry is recorded in the 1828 Census: Page 406... [Ref Y0045] York, Henry, 28, free by servitude, Fame, 1816, Protestant, living at Mary Crooks, Mt. Pleasant, Bringelly. ## The Mary Crooks so mentioned must be his mother. It would appear that she was then living with George Crook (Convict, 1814, "Surry"). They appear on page 109... [Ref C3027] Crook, George, 42, FS, Surry, 1814, 14 years, Farmer, St Vincent. [Ref C3028] Crook, Mary, 60, FS, (no details provided).
Henry York, was baptised in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England on 12th May 1799.His mother Mary was sent to NSW as a convict arriving on William Pitt 1806.Henry arrived on Fame in 1817 and was sent to live and work with his mother in Bringelly.He married Mary Murphy (who "came free")on 23rd February 1835.Henry and Mary had 9 children. Mary died in tragic circumstances in 1856. Henry died in Liverpool NSW 25th June 1881
