John York was 5'5" tall, dark complexion, grey eyes, brown hair. At the time of his death John was a farmer at Auburn. His property was called "Barra Barra" and he took up his land grant C1817. 19/12/1824: Married Mary Fitzgerald in Launceston, Mary was a widow. August 1840: John was buried on the 7/8/1840 at Campbell Town Old Anglican Cemetery.

John York was charged in 1803 (crime unknown) and given a 14 yr sentence. Recorded on Tasmanian Archives as arriving on the Duke of Portland in 1807. Convict no. 79143 05/12/1815: Insolent & abusive to Mr. Birch - acquitted. 23/12/1817: Ticket of Leave/Steal stone, the property of the Crown - acquitted. 31/08/1827: Harbor and employ J. Griffiths, a runaway convict. Fined. 06/12/1828: CE/Breach peace - bound to keep the peace for 6 mths. 08/10/1829: CE/Selling rum without a licence - dismissed. 17/09/1831: TL/Suspected of a felony - dismissed. 1832: Free, by servitude.
