Convict Notes
1841, 24 May: Received a Ticket of Leave (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-47$init=CON31-1-47p222). He is also on the 1841 Muster as holding a ToL (see NSW and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849; Tasmania; List of convicts (incomplete) 1841). 1842, 20 December: As a ToL holder, he was issued with a Pass to remain in the Westburn District (see Tasmania, Australia, Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899; Register of passes to convicts in the North, together with quarterly muster rolls, 1841-1844). 1846: Muster - Hugh Young per Isabella has a Free Certificate (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849).
1833: He was listed as assigned to Mr Peter Hume (see Tasmania, Australia, Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899; Register; Alphabetical register of the appropriation of convicts in the North, 1833-1835). 1836, 5 December: He was convicted at the Quarter Sessions for stealing three £5 notes belonging to Archibald Andrews on 21 November. A sentence of 7 years was handed down, with 3 years to be served at Port Arthur.
1833, 13 July: On arrival in VDL, Hugh Young was 23, single and a coach and harness maker (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-9P60J2K). His Conduct Record says he had been convicted and imprisoned before (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-47$init=CON31-1-47p222).
1832: Precognition against Hugh Young for the crime of theft by housebreaking at Wellington Street, Glasgow. Accused: Hugh Young, son of Hugh Young, carter, Age: 20+, coach maker, Address: South Woodside, near Glasgow, with father. Victim: Dickson Russell, Wellington Street, Glasgow (see National Records of Scotland; Reference AD14/32/207). --0-- 1832, 19 October: Trial papers relating to Hugh Young for the crime of theft by housebreaking at Wellington Street, Glasgow. Tried at High Court, Glasgow. Accused: Hugh Young, son of Hugh Young, carter, Verdict: Guilty, Sentence: Transportation - 7 years (see National Records of Scotland; Reference JC26/1832/348). --00--
