John Young and Thomas Gray were then charged with stealing a box with butter, on the 8 th of December last, from country cart, which was standing at Yard Heads, Leith, and also with being habit and repute thieves. case was proved by evidence of the clearest kind, the culprits were sentenced to fourteen years transportation. They were apprehended along with their spoil, by Serjeant-Major Fisher of the Leith Police, in a house in Abbey Hill, Edinburgh, within hour after the crime was committed, and the Lord Justice Clerk took occasion to compliment Fisher for his activity, observing he had frequently done so before; but he could not help now saying, that the Leith establishment were fortunate in having obtained him for their Serjeant-Major.
