1846: John Young received his Free Certificate (see NSW and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849; Tasmania, Ledger Returns S-Z; 1846).


1828, 3 April: John Young, 50, was received aboard the prison hulk Justitia at Woolwich. He was sent from there for transportation on 7 July (see UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849). 1828: On arrival in VDL, John Young was married to Margaret Ritchie and they had five children. He stated that he drove a cart and horse for a living. 1838, 21 August: Granted a Ticket of Leave (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-45$init=CON31-1-45p366)


1828, 10 April: John Young, 50, a carter, from Stranraer, Wigtownshire, and George Edgar, 32, a butcher also from Stranraer, were tried in the High Court at Edinburgh for sheep stealing. It was alleged they stole three sheep from the farm of Mount Pleasant in the parish of Inch. Both pleaded not guilty. They were convicted and each was sentenced to transportation for 14 years (see National Records of Scotland; Reference JC26/1828/444).
