Elizabeth Allsopp was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 28th Mar 1840 and arriving 13th Jul 1840 with 214 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Married at age of 19 to John Marsland aged 35, arrived Minerva in at Scone Courthouse on the 11th of January 1842, by Rev Morse




Witness at the marriage in 1842 at Scone Courthouse was Shipmate, Sarah Copas, formerly Carroll, my G G Grandmother.




Elizabeth Allsopp was listed as 18 years old on arrival. Transported for 'Stealing shoes' Native Place: Derbyshire. Elizabeth could read, was single, 4'9½" tall, fair ruddy and freckled complexion, red hair, grey eyes, scar on back of middle finger of left hand, mark of a boil on lower left arm. Assigned to Rev. John Morse, Scone. 31/1/1842: Married John Marsland (Minerva 1824) in the Courthouse at Merton. Children listed on NSW BDM: All born at Scone, NSW 1842: Mary J 1844: John 1846: Henry J 1847: Emily A 1850: Thomas 1852: Isabella 1854: William 1857: Peter 1857: John 1860: Helen E S 1862: Esther 1867: Susan Rose 3/6/1915: Eizabeth Marsland died in Kars Spring, NSW., and was buries at St. Luke's Cemetery, Scone, NSW. 4/6/1915 Scone Advocate, NSW: Mrs Elizabeth Marsland A very old identity of the Upper Wybong, Mrs Elizabeth Marsland (Grandmother Marsland) passed away at the residence of her granddaughter, Mrs J B Leard of Meadulligalah, yesterday morning at the ripe age of 93. The deceased old lady was very widely connected in that portion of our district to the west, and can truly be said to have been associated with the pioneering days when there were trials and hardships of which the present generation know nothing. The deceased was the relict of the late John Marsland, who predeceased her 38 years, and was born at Wirksworth, England in 1823, her husband being a native of Lancashire, where he was born about 1805. The deceased came to New South Wales in 1840, and shortly afterwards to this district, where she had resided ever since, a period of upwards of 70 years. The old lady leaves behind her family of two sons and three daughters, three members of the family having predeceased her. The surviving members are: John, Upper Wybong; Thomas, Murrundi; Mrs J Collins, Parkville; Mrs Thos Skevs, Wybong; and Mrs W B Hayward, Upper Wybong. There are also over 80 grand children and one great, great grand child. The deceased’s husband selected on the Upper Wybong in the early 1870’s, shortly before his death. The remains were interred in the Church of England Cemetery here this afternoon, a number of relations and sympathisers from the Upper Wybong attending. The burial service was conducted by the rev F A Cadell" John Marsland died in 1877.
