John Anderson was transported on the Charlotte, departing 13th May 1787 and arriving 22nd Jan 1788 with 111 passengers.
Being 335 tons, 105 ft long and 28 ft at the beam, The Charlotte held 88 male and 20 female convicts. Built in 1784 and Skippered by Master Thomas Gilbert, her return to England saw her doing the London - Jamacia run until she was sold to a Quebec merchant in 1818 and was then lost off the coast of Newfoundland that very same year.

John Anderson was transported for 'breaking into a house and stealing a linen handkerchief, other goods and money'. He was sent to the Dunkirk hulk before embarkation aboard the Charlotte. 16/3/1788: Married Elizabeth Bruce (Lady Penrhyn 1788). They had 3 sons. 4/10/1788: John and Elizabeth sere sent to Norfolk Island per 'Golden Grove'. On Norfolk Island John was employed to help John Altree and Thomas Webb at Ball’s Bay, and he also became a member of the night watch at Grenville Vale. At the end of 1792 he was selling his own grain to government and by mid-1793 was settled on twelve acres, all ploughable and cultivated. 1796: John Anderson disappears from all records. Elizabeth then began living with Francis Flexmore (Neptune 1790) - they had 2 more children. Elizabeth, Francis and 5 children then left for VDL arriving on 3/9/1808 per 'City of Edinburgh'.




Report from Dunkirk hulk was “tolerably decent and orderly”.On 14 December 1789 he received 200 lashes for robbing a garden.Nightwatch member by 1791.
