SHIP NEWS.—On Wednesday arrived the Catherine transport, Capt. Simmonds, with 97 female prisoners from Ireland; which she received at Cork, and afterwards went to Falmouth for convoy, whence she sailed for this Colony the 8th of last December. Yesterday arrived the Three Bees transport, Capt. Wallace, with 209 male prisoners, also from Ireland, but last from England having sailed in the same convoy with the Catherine, under protection of the Niger and Tagus frigates; which captured, off the Cape de Verde, the Ceres French frigate, rated 36, but carrying 46 guns, after an action of 15 minutes in which the Tagus only was engaged. Family connections for Richard (Archbold) are: Some amendments added Sep 2025. ARCHBOLD Richard (Archbold/Archibald) was born at Kildare Ireland about 1793 & became a clerk. He was tried for uttering words of treason at Kildare or Dublin city Ireland in 1813. sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 6 5 1814 after a voyage of 6months on THREE BEES; he was Catholic 5'5" fair pale complexion sandy hair grey eyes. On 19 7 1816 he is recorded at Church Hill. He was a school master when he married with permission Mary Clement (Pawley age15) on 7 4 1817 at St Phillips CofE Sydney/Lane Cove. He was recorded on 29 8 1820 at Charlotte Square. He was a school master in 1817. He was Free by Servitude by 1821. On 17 9 1821 he was involved in assignment of house at corner Bent & Bligh Streets Sydney, which he purchased before 28 11 1821. In 1823-5 he is recorded as victualler & dealer. After 1824 he had to make explanations for not paying for use of assigned convicts. On 14 11 1825 he was granted land. In 1828 he is recorded with his family as landholder of 100acres at Hunters Hill. He died on 22 10 1836 age43 at Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary Clement (Pawley) was born on 7 1 1802 & baptised on 22 12 1804 age2 w/Susannah at St Phillips CofE Sydney. In 1828 she is recorded with her family at Hunters Hill. She died on 1 8 1850 age48. Richard (Archbold) & Mary (Pawley) produced maybe 10children: 1.Eliza (Archbold) was born on 30 7 1818 & baptised on 30 8 1818 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & mysteriously again on 24 1 1821 (a practice followed after arrival of Catholic Ministry) w/Mary at St Marys RC Hobart-recorded there-ceremony performed in NSW. In 1828 she is recorded with her parents at Hunters Hill. She died in 1905 age about86. 2.Mary (Archbold) was born in 1820 & baptised on 24 1 1821 w/Eliza at St Marys RC Hobart-recorded there-ceremony performed in NSW. -maybe the same person 3.Mary (Archbold) was born in 1821. In 1828 she is recorded with her parents at Hunters Hill.-maybe the same person 4.Richard (Archbold) was born on 4 8 1823 in Sydney & baptised on 4 8 1823 at St Marys RC Sydney. In 1828 he is recorded with his parents at Hunters Hill. He died on 3 8 1902 age about79. 5.Sarah (Archbold) was born in 1825. In 1828 she is recorded with her parents at Hunters Hill. She died on 8 9 1842 about17. 6.Elizabeth (Archbold) was born on 12 7 1827 in Sydney & baptised on 8 12 1828 at St Marys RC Sydney. In 1828 she is recorded with her parents at Hunters Hill. She died on 9 6 1902 age79. 7.Gerald (Archbold) was born in 1830. He died on 18 9 1918 age about88. 8.William (Archbold) was born on 31 12 1831. 9.Jacob (Archbold) was born on 1 11 1834. 10.Geraldine (Archbold) was born on 2 2 1836. Richard Archbold was transported for " Uttering words of treason against the King". Richard was 5'5" tall, fair pale complexion, sandy hair, grey eyes. 7/4/1817: Richard married Mary Clement Pawley, born Sydney 7/6/1802, died 1/8/1850, Lane Cove. NSW. 9 Children: 30/7/1818: Eliza Archbold 1821: Mary Archbold 4/8/1823: Richard Archbold 1824: Sarah Archbold 12/7/1827: Elizabeth Archbold 1829: Gerald Archbold 31/12/1831: William Archbold 1/11/1834: Jacob Archbold 2/2/1836: Geraldine Archbold 22/10/1836: Richard died in Sydney, NSW.
