Convict Notes
Burials records for Port Arthur state that John Arnold died on 16 July, 1850, and was buried on the Isle of the Dead on 18 July, 1850. Age - 40. Burial ceremony performed by Thomas B Garlick (https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD34-1-2p129j2k). However, the return of Convict Deaths in Tasmania for 1845-1874, gives his date of death as 23 July, 1850 (Tasmania, Australia, Convict Court and Selected Records, 1800-1899; Register; Registers of convict deaths, 1845-1874). The two dates are also quoted by Lynette Ross in her thesis, "Death and burial at Port Arthur 1830-1877" (1995, UTAS). However, she then lists 16 July, 1850 as the "research" date.
John was transported for stealing lambs. He died in hospital at Port Arthur 23\7\1850.
