"Henry Atkins came as a convict to NSW on the ship John, they left on 26/1/1832 arrived on 8/6/1832. Convicted for Theft and Larceny and was given 14yrs.He was my GGgrandfather. He served his full term and moved to Hinton NSW and ran the Post office there and his wife ran the general store in Hinton. Her name was Mary Ann Stace. Henry Died in 1893 and is buried behind the Church of England Church Hinton NSW with his wife Mary Ann Atkins They are my GG grandparents regards Gail Stevens."

Henry Atkins was listed as 21 years old on arrival. Native Place: London. Occupation: Tallow chandler. Henry was literate, Protestant, single, 5'3½" tall, brown hair and complexion, grey and small eyes, scar over left eyebrow, scar back of left hand.

Henry Atkins was 21 years old when transported for 'stealing from his master'. Henry stole soup, pickles and dyes etc., value, £12 1s. 1832: TOL Maitland 24/6/1837: TOL Paterson Plains. 8/8/1838: TOL Maitland 19/11/1845: COF 14/2/1848: Aged 27 he married Sophia Bannister, age 35 per 'Colombia' (came free). They had no children, although Sophia already had children. Sophia was born in 1803 and died 26/4/1840 aged 37. 28/10/1838: Married Mary Ann Stace (1820-1898). They had 6 children. Mary and died 14/2/1898 at Morpeth. 17/2/1893: Henry died aged 83, and is buried at Hinton Cemetery NSW. His occupation was a storekeeper.
