Convict Notes
Robert was killed by a whale at Warbs Bay 10\5\1851.
COURT MARTIAL Private Robert AYR, 64th Regiment of Foot, was court martialled at Halifax for "desertion and losing necessaries" on 16 August, 1841 [not 5 August, as per VDL records]. He was sentenced to transportation for life, commuted to 14 years' transportation (Judge Advocate General's Office: general courts martial registers, abroad; 01 January 1829 to 31 December 1850). Note: The sentence here does not seem to have carried through to subsequent VDL records which have him serving a life sentence. --0--
