John Baddley was convicted at Court Martial, Kussowlie, India on 28/06/1847 for theft and receive goods, knowing them to be stolen (a watch). 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemens Land on the ‘Salween’ arriving 01/02/1848.

Ship surgeon’s report: well behaved.

Native Place: Castle Donnington, Leicestershire.
Previously a boatman; 5’7”; 28yrs of age; dark complexion; black hair; dk Hazel eyes; single man; can read a little.

Van Diemens Land: Convict no. 2096
Station Gang: Fingal, 6mths.

10/07/1849: Transportation extended 12 months.
15/08/1849: Transportation extended 18 months.
Further charge for Highway Robbery. Oatlands S.C. 31/12/1851. Guilty. 15yr transportation sentence.
Sent to Norfolk Island 1852-1855
Served time at Port Arthur Penal Settlement and Maria Island (off east coast of Tasmania).
