The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Jane Bailey's correct surname was Bayliff. She was baptised at Arthuret, Cumberland on 25 Feb 1818, daughter of Luke Bayliff and wife Elizabeth, nee Tinning. On 1 Apr 1842, Jane was convicted of larceny at Carlisle Quarter Sessions. With a previous conviction for stealing a watch, she was sentenced to transportation to Van Diemen's Land for seven years and arrived in Hobart on 24 Sep 1842 on board the "Royal Admiral". In 1845, when pregnant with twins, she was given permission to marry convict John Martin. Although no marriage occurred, they cohabited and established a family, with Jane thereafter known as Jane Martin. From 1855, the family lived on fifty acres east of the Forth River. Jane died there of consumption on 18 Aug 1857, her death being registered in the name of Jane Martin.
