SATURDAY, MAY 14, 1831 Arrived on Monday the 9th. instant the convict ship America, Robert Donald, Esq. Commander, from London 6th. January, with, 186 females. Passengers, Mr. Capon, Chief Constable of the Island, Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Thomson, R. N.; brings also some Commissariat stores. Martha BAKER was convicted at Surrey, England on 25 Oct 1830 for stealing shirts. 7 yr transportation sentence. Gaol Report: "bad, in prison before". Married woman - husband Charles BAKER already transported to Australia (Van Diemen's Land per the ship 'Clyde' 1830 on a 14 yr sentence) Martha transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'America' arriving 9 May 1831. Married woman (maiden name not stated on record) - husband Charles BAKER.
