Robert Stewart 15 sailor, and William Barnes 23, whitesmith, indicted for stealing an ass, belonging to John Moore, at Dedham. Also indicted for stealing two sacks and a hammer, belonging to John White, at Dedham. Barnes was further indicted for stealing an ass, belonging to William Scogging, at Dedham – Seven years transportation each. (Essex Standard, 26 May 1837, p2.)
