John BARRY arrived free on the 'Tenasserim' 1844. Convicted for stealing a watch, at the Hobart Q.S. Court 15 Nov 1845. 7 yr transportation sentence - to be served in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). Single man; aged 27 yrs; farm labourer; Roman Catholic; can read & write a little; 5'2 1/2" height; fair complexion; dk brown hair; blue eyes; tatoos. Native place of birth: Shadwell, London Brother: Edward, at native place Sisters: Margaret, Mary & Ellen, at native place (ref. Convict Indent Record) Colony of VDL: 12 mths Probation Period Station Gang: Impression Bay 2 Sept 1847: Hobart S.C - Tried for the manslaughter of James Baker. Not Guilty. Several other records of misconduct & punishments. 9 Feb 1853: Free Certificate issued.
