BROTHER; Griffin Beale transported per ship; Ship: Norfolk Arrival: 12th Feb 1837 Place of Arrival: New South Wales Indent No; No; 37 - 617. 147 aged 23 years old
The details of Frederick's death are quite upsetting. He committed suicide by cutting his own throat whilst in a state of temporary insanity brought on by a growth in the brain. The inquest into his death was reported in the Sydney Morning Herald; Wednesday 29th August 1855; Page 8.
In the colony, Frederick married Ann Farthing in 1846, at Sydney. Ann was the daughter of William Farthing (Convict, 1814, "Somersetshire") and Mary Wilkinson. Mary was herself the daughter of George Wilkinson (Seaman, 1798, "Britannia") and Sarah Coleman (Convict, 1798, "Britannia"). Frederick and Ann had 4 children.

Before Mr. Justice Littledale. 1368. FREDERICK BEAL and EDWARD GRIFFITHS were indicted for burglariously breaking and entering the dwelling-house of Henry Adam , about two o'clock in the night of the 16th of June , at Fulham , with intent to steal, and stealing therein 5 coats, value 8l.; 2 waistcoats, value 16s.; 2 seals, value 2l.; 1 ring, value 15s.; 3 brooches, value 30s.; 4 spoons, 30s., and 1 watch key, value 5s., his property. -------there follows several pages of witness evidence--------- ...BEAL's Defence. I know nothing about it. GRIFFITHS' Defence. The woman is false. Four Witnesses deposed to Beal's good character, and one to Griffith's. BEAL - GUILTY - DEATH . Aged 18. GRIFFITHS - GUILTY - DEATH . Aged 19 Of stealing in the dwelling-house, but not of burglary.
