Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

N.B. Sister to Charlotte ADLAND, also transported on this voyage of the 'Margaret' 1843 (noted on convict records) Sarah BEAL was convicted at the CCC, London on 28 Nov 1842 for Larceny. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Margaret' arriving 19 July 1843. Ship surgeon's report: "good, quiet". Single woman; Church of England; aged 25 yrs; Sister Charlotte on board this ship Sisters: Margaret & Ann in England Mother: Ann, in England. Colony of VDL: Assigned to work services. Clear conduct record. 26 Jan 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. 29 Nov 1849: Free Certificate issued.
