IRISH CRIME Freemans Journal, Firday 4 August 1809 "TRALEE - July 29th. Yesterday [i.e. July 29th] our assizes ended ... Morgan Connor found guilty of cow-stealing to be imprisoned one year and to give bail. DENNIS BEGLEY found guilty of a similar Crime to be transported seven years." Dennis could not write (signed the 1828 Census page with an "X"). He lived in the Eastern Creek area and had his own assigned servants. In October 1825 Dennis wrote a memorial which is now illegible. he was probably asking for land (o more land). In November 1825 an order was made for a land grant to Dennis Begley of 40 acres. This would have been at Eastern Creek. * IN 1828 Census he had one assigned servant (35 yo Thomas Canary, RC) and one 'free' - 52 year old John Brien per "Boyd", Cond pardon, as well as a 14 year old Colonial born girl, Ellen Connor, working as a servant in the household to Mary. * In 1833 his errand boy was transferred to Mr Wall of "Wallgrove". ["Wallgrove" was near Eastern Creek]. * In NSW 1841 Census -Dennis Begley living in the Parish of Prospect District of Parramatta. There was a single man, a Protestant, aged 45 - 60 (would be his servant) and a married man aged 45 - 60 (Dennis, Catholic) and a married Catholic woman aged 21 - 45 years. This may not have been Mary returned because Mary was Protestant in the 1828 Census. * In 1844 Dennis' servant was Patrick O'Shaughnessy who gave evidence in a case against three army deserters fo rrobbery, that he was employed by Dennis Begley and was at his masters place at Eastern Creek when they came by wanting a drink of water and to be show to the High Road. * Dennis was an elector in 1851 -52 (see NSW Electoral Rolls 1851-52) , qualified as owning the freehold of his property, residing at Eastern Creek, Prospect.
