Tried at Warwick Q.Q., 5 Jan 1835, 7 years. Native place, Kings Sutton, Married, 4 children, protestant, can read but not write. Relations &c. and where last residing &c: Wife Mary Ann at N.P. 4 ch with her among farmers – last at same place with her. This offence: Stg pattens from my master, N.P. Once for wheat, 6 mos. Very Good Man. (Surgeon’s report)
From Blencowe Guild of One-Name studies database compiled by Daphne Austin. Thomas Blencowe was born 17.2.1802/3 christened 27.2.1803/5 Kings Sutton DNA tests show that this line is descendant fron Adam de Blencowe a Norman knight pardoned by Edward III and given land at what is now Blencow Cumberland abt 1348. Thomas was born illegitimate Parish Registers so a probably a Blencowe woman but this isnt proven. His first wife Mary Ann Morgan (born 1806) when he was transported moved in with Joseph Campton/Compton and had 2/3 children with him so probably not too worried that Thomas did not return to Warwick. Two of Thomas's daughters Elizabeth 1824 and Zilpha 1827 married two brothers Knight both boatmen. Descendants still live in the Banbury area. We have no burial or indeed whereabouts of convict Thomas on his return to London in 1853
Thomas Blencoe was transported for 'Stealing a pair of pattens'. Thomas was 32 years old, 5'5¼" tall, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, stout made. Native Place: Kings Sutton. Married in 1824 to Mary Ann Morgan, at Bishop Itchington, Warwickshire, he had 4 children. 8/12/1840: TOL 1842: Free Certificate. 3/6/1844: Married Mary Tims (Garland Grove 1842). Thomas was 41 and Mary 45. 25/12/1854: Thomas and Mary left Launceston as steerage passengers per 'Potentate' for London. Mary was listed as Tims.
