James Bloodworth was transported on the Charlotte, departing 13th May 1787 and arriving 22nd Jan 1788 with 111 passengers.

Being 335 tons, 105 ft long and 28 ft at the beam, The Charlotte held 88 male and 20 female convicts. Built in 1784 and Skippered by Master Thomas Gilbert, her return to England saw her doing the London - Jamacia run until she was sold to a Quebec merchant in 1818 and was then lost off the coast of Newfoundland that very same year.

Family connections for James (Bloodworth) are: BLOOD/SWORTH James (Bloodsworth) was born on 7 3 1759 & became a master bricklayer & builder. He married firstly Jane (Marks) on 9 12 1782 in Middlesex. He was tried for stealing fowls in Esther Surrey, tried at Kingston upon Thames Quarter Sessions on 3 10 1785 & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 1 1788 after a voyage of 8months on First Fleet ship CHARLOTTE.>>> [Some details taken from this Website] Jane (Marks) was born about 1759. She was tried for stealing money of Benjamin (Haden) of Dudley at Worcester Summer Assizes on 9 7 1785, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 22 1 1788 after a voyage of 1year on First Fleet ship LADY PENRHYN; information indicates she was pregnant for nearly the whole voyage - she had a first relationship with sailor Joseph (Downey) on the ship & produced 1child. She was assigned to 2Lieutenant John (Faddy) as housemaid. She was Free by Servitude by 1795. She presumably disposed of the property after her husbands death & was granted 20acres at Petersham. James "BLOODSWORTH" was transported for stealing 1 gamecock and 2 hens at Esher in Surrey. He was a Master Bricklayer and builder and was responsible for most of the Colony's buildings between 1788 and 1800. He arrived on the Charlotte in the 1st Fleet and was tried at Kingston upon Thames Quarter Sessions on 3/10/1785. 9/12/1782: He married Jane Marks (age 23) in Middlesex, England. Jane and 4 children were left behind in England, the last child, a boy, was born after James had been imprisoned. In about 1790 James began living with Sarah Bellamy, in South Street, now 19 O'Connell street. Sarah had 8 children by James, 4 of them not surviving infancy. Sarah was born in 1770 at Worcestershire. She arrived as a convict on the Lady Penrhyn. Sarah was convicted at Worcester, in 1785, of stealing a purse containing money. She married Joseph Downey C1790. Their son Joseph was born on the voyage and died aged 34 weeks. The children with James : James B B Bellamy 1790-1857, John B Bellamy 1793-1793, Robert B Bellamy 1795-1795, George Bellamy 1796, Ann Bellamy 1798, Elizabeth Bellamy 1802, and Charlotte 1804-1804. The children's births were registered as Bellamy but they were married as Bloodsworth's. James was pardoned in 1790 and on 1/9/1791 was appointed, Superintendent over all the brickmakers and bricklayers. In 1802 he was farming his grant of 50 acres at Petersham and then increased his holdings to 245 acres. When James died in 1804 he was given what was equivalent to a State Funeral, he left a widow and 5 children the youngest only 1 week old.
