James Briggs was born about 1819 in Douglas Isle of Man. Died 1896, Liverpool New South Wales, Australia. Occupation: Labourer Parents: not found Crime: stealing rope. Trial: 9th January 1837. Isle of Man Gaol Delivery, aged 24yrs when sentenced. Sentence: 7 years. Transported on the James Pattison, sailing 10th July 1837 and arriving New South Wales on 25th October 1837. 5’11½” tall, brown & freckled complexion brown hair, blue eyes. Permission to Marry granted 16 April 1844, Clarence River Region, NSW. James Briggs. Condition: T of L. Certificate of Freedom 16 April 1844. Was pardoned ?date. Married: Bridget Malone (1810-1884 Bostobric, New South Wales) Crime: felony of wearing apparel. Bridgit was age 33yrs when sentenced to 7 years, transported on the ship ‘Margaret’. Condition when married: Bond. 16 Apr 1844, Revd John McConnell. NSW Marriage Reg.No: 644/1844 V1844644 29. Son Thomas V1846518 66. Born 1846 & died in 1918. Daughter: Mary Born ? & died 1894 in Grafton NSW.
