The following report appears to be one of James's many previous convictions and periods of imprisonment. I am not sure what "a pair of High-lows" was - maybe boots? Lynn Adjourned Sessions. James Brighton, convicted of stealing a pair of high-lows from the cart of William Fenn, of Upwell, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment; ... Bury and Norwich Post, 18 Jan 1832.

Married Margaret Darwood 16 May 1821. Margaret died in 1822. Married Elizabeth Smart 16 December 1823 in Welney, Cambridgeshire. They had four children - John, George, Hannah and Maria. James did not return to England after his release. He died in 1887 in Brunswick, Victoria, Australia.
