Mary Ann BRODIE was convicted at Wiltshire, England on 2 Jan 1849 for obtaining goods by false pretence - bread and cheese. Previously served 6 weeks for stealing a watch. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'St. Vincent' arriving 4 April 1850. Ship surgeon's report: "very good". Aged 20 yrs; single woman; housemaid; 5'3"; fresh complexion; light brown hair; light Hazel eyes; Protestant; can read & write. Father: James Mother: Caroline Sisters: Jane, Eliza, Ellen & Sarah Colony of VDL: to service work upon arrival 14 Oct 1851: Application for permission to marry - Mary Ann BRODIE (St. Vincent) to William DAVIS (Sir Charles Forbes). Approved. 10 Nov 1851: Married William DAVIS at St. George's Church Hobart. Mary Ann aged 22 yrs, William aged 39 yrs, gardener. (ref. noted on her Conduct Record & 37/1/10 no. 336) 13 March 1855: Conditional Pardon approved. 17 Oct 1855: Birth of female child DAVIS, at Hobart. Mother - Mary Ann BRODIE. Father - William DAVIS, gardener. (ref. 33/1/6 no. 624) DEATH: 17 March 1860 - Mary Ann DAVIS, born England, aged 32 yrs, inflamation of the womb. Spouse - William DAVIS, gardener, Hobart.
