Lyn Hudson-Williamson...you state that there are no records to show that Jonathan Brooker was ever on Norfolk Island. In this respect you are wrong. I draw your attention to the Norfolk Island Victualling Book. I have a copy of the relevant page which shows him receiving victuals for the entirety of 1792, 1793, 1794 and 1795. The reference I have for this is: CY Reel 367, NIVB, Page 36a 'Convict Men'. Furthermore, Jonathan Brooker appears on a record held by the State Library of NSW which shows that he was paid about £25 by the Commissary of the Stores for supplying 991 pounds of swine's flesh to the stores. Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref B2446] Brooker, Jonathan, 68, free by servitude, Atlantic, 7 years, Protestant, carpenter at Illawarra, 50 acres, 50 cleared, 12 cultivated. Brooker, Edward 25, born in colony. {Actually Edward Harrigan} Brooker, John 22, born in colony. Brooker, Mary 16, born in colony. Brooker, James 14, born in colony. In the colony, Jonathan married Mary Wade (Convict, Lady Juliana, 1790). They married February 10th 1817 at St Lukes, Liverpool, Sydney. Mary had family from a long term defacto relationship with Edward Teague Harrigan (Convict, Salamander, 1791) this appears to have broken up around 1805, leaving her with 4 children, although one, William who was born in 1795, actually used the surname Brooker for all his life! Mary and Jonathan then had a further 4 children.

Jonathan Brooker was tried on the charge of stealing glue to the value of 8 pounds and was sentenced to transportation to Australia for 7 years. Jonathan embarked on the ship "Atlantic" which also sailed from Plymouth 27 Mar 1791 with 220 male convicts, arriving Port Jackson 20 Aug 1791 as part of the Third Fleet. Jonathan was then embarked on the ship "Queen" and was transported to Norfolk Island where he arrived 11 Nov 1791. Tried at Kingston Surrey 5 Oct 1790, sentenced to seven years transportation, absolute pardon 2 Feb 1811.
